We are all looking for ways to help preserve the global environment while making our own
environments— our homes—healthier. TLC4theHome's Going Green tips and ideas can help
make your home more eco-friendly by making it more energy efficient.

The TLC store also features a variety of products to help you clean green. We offer ozone-friendly,
water-based and phosphate-free products that are simple and effective.

Simple things you can do to help your home get green by becoming more energy efficient:

Install a motion detector outside.
Install a motion detector outside to replace your outdoor lighting. Outdoor lights left on all night
waste energy. Lights activated by motion sensors will keep an area well lit while preserving energy
and even save you some money.

Check for leaky faucets.
Conserve water by checking your home carefully for leaky faucets and get them repaired as quickly
as possible, or install low-flow showerheads to cut down on water use. It will also help you save money!

Clean out your air conditioner filters and replace them regularly.
A dirty filter will hamper the airflow, costing you more to run your system.

Invest in an automated thermostat.
Investing in an automated thermostat is worth the extra money, as it will save you money in the long run.

Unplug chargers when you are not using them.
Often times cell phone and other chargers use up power even if there is nothing attached to them.

Eco-Friendly Tip of the Month

Clean green with baking soda.

  • Make your own multipurpose cleaning solution: mix baking
soda with warm water and use
to clean counter tops, sinks, appliances and more.

  • Unclog your drain: pour a cup
of baking soda and a cup of
vinegar down the drain, plug the
drain with a washcloth and let it
bubble. Wait a couple of minutes
and then rinse with hot water.

  • Remove grease from pots and
    pans: sprinkle a small amount
of baking soda on a sponge and
scrub until the grease is gone.

  • Use with laundry detergent for
    tough stains: sprinkle a handful
of baking soda on dirty clothes
    to help remove tough stains
    from your clothes.
