Luxurious Leather
When shopping for leather-upholstered furniture, you’ll notice that genuine leather furniture bears the markings of its natural origin, including healed scars, differing fiber density and pore structure. Instead of depreciating the wearing qualities of leather, however, these hallmarks often are sought after when buying leather. One of leather’s defining characteristics is that it’s both durable and practical.
With the right care, leather improves with age, providing many years of enjoyable use. But even the best leather is subject
to damage.
Caring for your leather furniture:
- Dust furniture at least once a week with a soft, dry cloth.
- Leather should be cleaned and protected every two months. Visit our TLC store for recommended cleaning products.
- Place furniture a minimum of two feet away from radiators and other heat sources.
- Avoid sharp objects near leather that could puncture or tear.
- Protect leather from direct and indirect sunlight to avoid fading.

Fabulous Fabric
When purchasing upholstered furniture, you will have the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of fabrics, fibers, colors and designs. You may also have the opportunity to purchase a fabric treatment that protects your furniture’s upholstery by causing spills and soil to sit on the surface of the fiber instead of migrating to the fiber’s interior.
Caring for your fabric-upholstered furniture — keep your
furniture looking new longer by following a few basic maintenance tips:
- Vacuum weekly.
- After vacuuming, reverse any reversible cushions.
- Hand-fluff down-filled pillows and cushions.

Wonderful Wood
Choices of grain, type and texture of wood abound in furniture stores. In addition to enhancing the wood’s natural beauty, the finish also protects the wood from stains and damage. But, as with all of your furniture, it is not indestructible.
Caring for wood furniture:
- Don’t set anything on the wood that could cause damage—hot plates, sharp objects, and abrasive items such as ashtrays and ceramic lamps are frequent offenders.
- Dust frequently to remove everyday abrasive particles from wood surfaces. Use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth, such as a white t-shirt or a cotton baby diaper.
- Polish wood surfaces regularly to enhance the shine and remove smudges and particles.
- Avoid humidity extremes to prevent warping.
